How to Take Care of Your Natural Hair

Are you having a difficult time managing your natural hair? Whether you’re transitioning from relaxed to natural or you’ve always worn your mane chemical-free, the battle for healthy natural hair is raging on day to day. The most popular complaint is dryness. Natural hair must be moisturized constantly in order remain balanced. As women of color it is imperative not to over-moisturize by remembering that our hair too produces its own natural oils. Many over-due moisturizing by using heavy greases with petroleum that weigh hair down while others use products that lack key moisturizers such as argon and cocoanut oils. The first step to healthy hair is a healthy scalp and that can be attained by drinking plenty of water. There are also a plethora of household items that stimulate hair growth and healthiness such as lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. A mixture of the two drizzled onto the scalp will help eliminate dandruff as well as condition. Another unlikely ingredient is raw eggs. Crack a few, scramble in a bowl, allow it to coat hair, and you’ll have an instant protein treatment. An added insider is, spreading mayonnaise onto your hair instead of your sandwich and letting it set for 10 minutes or so for a great deep condition. Rinsing hair thoroughly with warm water after any of the three treatments mentioned above will give the best outcomes. In addition to using household products, another habit to get into around the house is using silk pillow cases. In terms of styling without heat, braiding or twisting hair at bedtime and unraveling in the morning makes for a beautiful curly coif. Depending on the occasion, one can rock this as a forward fro or pin the back up and leave a section of the front out for a more elegant and tamed look. Dreadlocks which were once seen as masculine have evolved and now sister-locks have arisen. Both can be worn in a wide array of designs just as braids and can be welt kept for extended periods of time if done right.

All hair is beautiful and these tips can be applied to both natural and chemical treated hair because at the end of the day, all hair experiences damage and dryness. All hair must be trimmed and all healthy hair starts at the root and scalp, no discrimination. Take these tips and make sure your summer is filled with fun in the sun without sun damage and well as water, water, everywhere, especially to moisturize your hair!
